ATOME PLC US$465 million definitive EPC contract signed with Casale

ATOME, a leading international developer of green fertiliser projects, has signed a definitive US$465 million fixed-price, lump-sum Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract with Casale S.A. for its flagship green fertiliser facility in Villeta, Paraguay. This agreement marks a major milestone as ATOME advances towards a Final Investment Decision, targeted for the end of the first half of 2025.

The contract follows Casale’s appointment as EPC contractor in November 2024 and highlights ATOME’s continued ability to convert strategic partnerships into finalised agreements. Casale, a globally recognised leader in fertiliser and ammonia technologies, will deliver the plant under a fixed schedule, with production expected to commence within 38 months from FID.

Pioneering Green Fertiliser at Scale

The Villeta Project will produce 260,000 tonnes of low-carbon fertiliser annually using 100 percent renewable baseload electricity. In an industry traditionally dependent on fossil fuels—emitting over 2.6 billion tonnes of CO₂ per year—ATOME’s project represents a critical step forward in the decarbonisation of global agriculture. The facility will serve the Mercosur region, one of the world’s most productive agricultural areas, responding to increasing demand for sustainable fertiliser solutions.

Detailed engineering works have already begun, and project teams are mobilising in preparation for construction. The signing of this EPC contract follows a recent announcement regarding anchor and lead equity investment in Villeta, reinforcing momentum towards FID.

Leadership Commentary

Olivier Mussat, CEO of ATOME, stated:“ATOME is delighted to announce the signing of our EPC contract with Casale, a world-class partner in ammonia and fertiliser engineering. This agreement, delivered on time and aligned with our project schedule, marks a crucial step as we progress towards FID for the Villeta Project. Casale’s extensive expertise and shared commitment to innovation and sustainability make them the ideal partner to deliver the world’s first large-scale dedicated green fertiliser facility.”

Mussat added that the Villeta Project is a cornerstone for ATOME’s broader pipeline, as the company positions itself as a leading platform for green fertiliser development.

Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale, commented:“We at Casale are immensely proud to support ATOME’s visionary project in Paraguay. With over a decade invested in CO₂-reduction technologies, we are now able to deliver an optimised and cost-effective design that challenges the economic dominance of traditional grey fertilisers. This project sets a new benchmark for sustainable fertiliser production.”

Zardi further emphasised the strategic importance of the partnership, highlighting Casale’s legacy of innovation and its alignment with ATOME’s sustainability-focused mission.
