Axens has successfully completed the expansion of its Axens Catalyst Arabia Limited facility in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone in regional catalyst production. The upgraded site now includes the production of Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts, making Axens the first and only company to manufacture these catalysts in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, alongside its legacy hydroprocessing catalyst production.

This strategic expansion reinforces Axens’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions tailored to the needs of local and regional partners in the oil and gas sector. With the new capability now fully operational, the ACAL site is supplying the region’s refining and gas industries with the latest generation of Tail Gas Treatment Catalysts. These advanced catalysts operate at lower temperatures than conventional options, resulting in reduced energy consumption and lower capital expenditure.

Axens’ catalyst solutions, including the new Tail Gas Treatment range and its well-established Claus catalysts, are engineered for high sulphur recovery rates of up to 99.9 percent, helping customers meet stringent environmental regulations by minimising SOx emissions. The technology also ensures operational flexibility and long-term reliability—key requirements for achieving sustainability targets in the energy sector.
