BASF and Stolt Tankers introduce the low-water chemical tanker Stolt Ludwigshafen during ship christening ceremony

The christening of the low-water inland tanker Stolt Ludwigshafen at BASF’s Ludwigshafen site marks a significant milestone for the partnership between BASF, Stolt Tankers, Mercurius Shipping Group, and a consortium of shipping experts.

The vessel’s godmother, Barbara Hoyer, vice president of BASF, christened the ship with champagne and wished the vessel and crew safe sailing. The Stolt Ludwigshafen is an innovative tanker designed to operate at the lowest water levels on the Rhine, ensuring the supply of BASF’s customers and production plants in the region. The ship features a hydrodynamically optimised hull, a special propulsion system, and a maximum loading capacity of 5,100 tonnes. The ship’s engines reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 30 percent and nitrogen oxide emissions by around 70 to 80 percent. The project demonstrates Stolt Tankers’ commitment to developing new technologies and ship designs for a sustainable maritime industry.
