Broekman Logistics expands breakbulk activities in Rotterdam
As of November 1, 2024, Broekman Logistics has expanded its breakbulk operations in Rotterdam through the acquisition of B.V. Expeditie- en Stuwadoors Maatschappij J.C. Meijers. This acquisition marks a significant advancement in the ongoing Breakbulk Carousel project, initiated in 2018 by Rotterdam’s port players and the Port Authority to strengthen the port’s breakbulk sector.
J.C. Meijers, a longstanding name in Rotterdam’s stevedoring sector under owner Erik Meijers, will transfer its terminal activities to JCMB B.V., a subsidiary of Broekman Logistics. The acquisition will enhance Broekman’s capabilities in breakbulk, heavy lift, and offshore logistics, particularly given the proximity of the J.C. Meijers facility to Broekman’s Project Services terminal.

Rob van Dijk, director of operations at JCMB, noted the strategic value of the acquisition, stating, “The expertise and facilities strengthen our position as an industry specialist. We look forward to collaborating with J.C. Meijers’ customers and partners.”
The acquired terminal includes a 19,000-square-metre space with a 270-metre quay, 3,000 square metres of indoor storage, a lifting capacity of up to 120 tons, and a rail connection for multimodal transport solutions. Twan Romeijn, Business Manager Breakbulk and Offshore Industry at the Port of Rotterdam, added, “This next step in the Breakbulk Carousel demonstrates our commitment to the development and modernization of the breakbulk sector.”
Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
