As one of South Africa’s privately owned heavy haul rail operators, Grindrod is advancing its commitment to providing a sustainable rail service through its integrated pit-to-port solution.
The company recently announced the return of thirteen locomotives, which were shipped from Sierra Leone and arrived at the port of Durban on Thursday, 22nd August. This follows the successful completion of an operation that saw over 18 million tonnes of iron ore hauled over three years, demonstrating Grindrod’s expertise in managing heavy-haul train operations.
Rail plays a crucial role in Grindrod’s integrated logistics solutions, offering enhanced efficiency and cost-effectiveness, particularly for dry-bulk and container flows. The company’s rail strategy focuses on building partnerships with rail authorities and operators, while also expanding and supporting rail growth opportunities within the SADC and East Africa regions. At the heart of this strategy is Grindrod’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the sustainability of its customers’ cargo flows, for the mutual benefit of all key stakeholders.
