HES Bulk Terminal opens new warehouse for agricultural products
HES Bulk Terminal has inaugurated a new agri-warehouse on its site at Westhavenweg in Amsterdam, marking a significant advancement in the company’s sustainability strategy and moving closer to its goal of achieving a coal-free port by 2030.
Robert Evers, commercial manager Agribulk at Port of Amsterdam, remarked on the importance of the new facility, noting that it has been constructed on a site that previously housed 250,000 tonnes of coal until April 2023. He emphasised that this development aligns perfectly with the strategy to eliminate coal transshipment in the Amsterdam port area by the year 2030.
The newly built warehouse measures 300 metres in length and 80 metres in width, boasting a capacity of 145,000 cubic metres, which allows for the storage of up to 80,000 tonnes of agricultural products.
In conjunction with the construction of the new warehouse, HES Bulk Terminal has also taken steps to enhance its infrastructure by demolishing two old warehouses and replacing the existing weighing tower for agricultural products with two modern units. Additionally, the Port of Amsterdam has upgraded the quay at the intersection of Sonthaven and Westhaven, facilitating transshipment operations along the extended, renovated quay.
