Lima airport in Peru selects Exolum for $80 million fuel project

Lima Airport Partners, concessionaire of the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru, announced March 15 it has selected Exolum SA as a long-term partner to implement the LIMFuel project, which consists of designing, building, operating and maintaining the new aviation fuel system. The project is part of a larger airport expansion and will facilitate uptake of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on-site.

Iván Saco, the commercial aviation lead for Exolum, said “The approximate investment will amount to more than $80 million in its first phase, with the forecast of starting up the new infrastructures in stages until 2041.

“The construction of a new hydrant network and its connection to the current system have already begun and will be operational in 2025,” he added.

“Exolum invests in research and development and has experience in handling SAF, with the ability to implement it at the Lima airport at the forefront of market trends,” said Juan José Salmón, CEO of Lima Airport Partners.

“In addition, it offers a sustainable proposal for the Jorge Chávez International Airport, in terms of protection and care for the environment, with the incorporation of a fleet of specialised new technology equipment to achieve the reduction of CO2 emissions, in addition to other initiatives.”

The infrastructure and location of the new fuel system will have the necessary facilities to guarantee fuel reception conditions both through tanker trucks and, in the future, through dedicated pipelines, which would reduce congestion and emissions from more than 100 tanker trucks per day.

The LIMFuel project was first announced in October 2020.
