OMZ’s continued success in the tank washing services industry

OMZ has been providing tank washing services to customers for almost 70 years.

OMZ’s Moreno Romanini, operative director of OMZ, said about the company’s growing success: “OMZ is a company which is involved in industrial washing plants and highly automated washing systems that answer the needs of our customers. OMZ ranks among one of the leaders in its field, in my opinion, boasting the title of being one of the first companies in Europe to develop a broad range of rotary washing equipment subsequently used as a benchmark by competitors.”

In the early 1980s, OMZ decided to focus its operations on the design and development of high-pressure washing systems able to guarantee the highest-level cleaning of tankers (according to EFTCO directives), tank cars and the chassis of both road and rail vehicles. The technology and versatility of OMZ systems has ensured the diffusion of their products worldwide.

These systems, developed at the company’s own facilities in Santo Stefano Ticino on the outskirts of Milan, Italy, rely on proven technology such as rotary washing heads (ATEX certified) in production since the 1970s, driven by a special series of hot and cold-water pump units.

The flow rate and pressure performance characteristics have been developed by OMZ technicians. These pump units are for high pressure operations between 50 and 800 bar with flow rates from 20 to 380 litres per minute. The systems can be completely customised because at OMZ, all client ideas and needs are carefully evaluated to satisfy every request.

“What distinguishes OMZ from the rest of the market is the focus we place on our customers. Before each cleaning project is carried out, in-depth research and analysis of the customer’s needs and requirements are undertaken to guarantee top quality results. Furthermore, the relationship with our customers does not end at the culmination of this process but continues through further assistance on dedicated WhatsApp channels and customised maintenance programmes,” Romanini added.

In recent months, new plants have been built that have seen OMZ become present not just in Europe, but further afield. One of their latest achievements was the completion of a tank washing plant in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic with two washing lines (one chemical and the other food) plus a line for external washing. A few months ago, OMZ embarked on a quality assurance path that they hope will lead them to obtain ISO 9000 certification.

OMZ is attentive to the issues surrounding sustainability. In the last two years, OMZ have invested in photovoltaics, covering the roof of their offices with the latest electricity generating panels. The thermal output of the boilers is above 90 percent, so they fall within the European parameters of gas injection. They also use frequency variators on all electric motors, making a significant saving in electricity consumption.

When asked about potential challenges, Romanin said: “The challenge that every sector must face in this period is certainly to overcome the effects of COVID-19 as soon as possible, and things have certainly improved since last year. Fortunately, our company, being part of a primary supply chain, did not have to close and was able to continue its business. Indeed, we have invested in personnel and machinery to try to become stronger and more competitive than we have been in the past.

“We are about to purchase new land adjacent to the workshop which will allow us to significantly improve logistics and allow us to dedicate a larger space to the containers used for transporting. OMZ wants to have a bigger presence not only in Europe, but also worldwide,” he added.
