Patrick Terminals unveils new Melbourne Patrick PortRail terminal
Patrick Terminals has announced the opening of the Melbourne Patrick PortRail Terminal, a cutting-edge facility poised to transform containerised freight management via rail. This development is a key component of the $125 million Port of Melbourne Rail Transformation Project.
The new on-dock rail terminal is equipped with two 600-metre rail sidings that connect directly with Patrick Terminals – Melbourne. This setup significantly enhances the efficiency of containerised freight movement to and from the port. The terminal is fully integrated with the Victorian rail network, creating vital links between regional exporters, domestic importers, and global markets.
Given that 27 percent of Australia’s export containers originate from regional Victoria, the Patrick PortRail Terminal is a major advancement for primary producers, offering improved access to export markets. The terminal also supports the use of port shuttles to and from intermodal terminals in outer suburbs, thereby reducing truck traffic on Melbourne’s busy inner roads.
This new facility underscores Patrick Terminals’ commitment to boosting efficiency and sustainability in freight management, benefiting the broader logistics network and regional economies.
