Port of Liverpool named UK’s Top Logistics Hub

A survey conducted by property consultancy Knight Frank has named the Port of Liverpool as the top port-centric logistics hub in the United Kingdom. The Future Gazing study analysed a total of 41 UK ports based on 13 ranking factors.

The survey placed the Port of Liverpool in first place based on its potential for export growth, and its ranking in the top 10% of ports for proximity to consumer markets, skilled labour, land availability, port capacity, and import growth potential. The Port of Liverpool’s grain terminal was also recognised due to its strategic importance to the UK’s agri bulk industry.

The Port of Liverpool also scored well against the survey’s 13 ranking factors, which examined a port’s capacity, connectivity, and overall investment.

This follows a period of significant investment in the port by its owner Peel Ports Group. Recent examples of investment include the completion of Liverpool2 – a £400 million deep-water container terminal.

Commenting on the results of the survey, Stephen Carr, Peel Ports Group’s Commercial Director, said:

“We’ve long argued that the Port of Liverpool is one of the UK’s best-located ports, and we have built on that with significant investment over many years to create jobs and enable more efficient supply chains.

These benefits have been greatly enhanced recently by confirmation from the Government that the Liverpool City Region has gained final Freeport status approval, meaning the benefits for supply chains locating to the region are even greater than ever”.
