Saga Shipholding transfers entire fleet of 32 vessels to the Bahamas Flag
The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) has announced a landmark achievement with the full-fleet transfer of Saga Shipholding’s 30 general cargo vessels—managed by Anglo-Eastern and partnered with NYK, Japan’s largest shipping company—to The Bahamas Ship Registry. In addition, two more Saga vessels managed by NYK Singapore have opted to join the Bahamian flag, bringing the total to 32 ships.
This significant commitment marks a major milestone for The BMA, representing a 1.56 percent increase in the Authority’s Gross Tonnage. It underscores the continued growth and international standing of The Bahamas flag.

“We are truly honoured by this full-fleet commitment from Saga Shipholding,” said Captain Jahangir Hussain, regional director (Asia), BMA. “That they selected The Bahamas, among all other major registries, speaks volumes about our reputation for quality, responsiveness, and technical excellence.”
The vessels—known for their high standards and strong port state control records—are being transferred in phases, with the final three expected to complete the process by the end of June 2025.
“This is more than just a fleet addition; it’s a vote of confidence in our team, our systems, and our service values,” added Captain Dwain Hutchinson, managing director & CEO of The BMA. “We value our longstanding relationships with SAGA/NYK and Anglo-Eastern and remain committed to delivering the highest levels of service and support to our new clients.”
The announcement comes at a fitting time, coinciding with The BMA’s 30th anniversary. It highlights three decades of consistent, high-quality service to shipowners worldwide and reinforces the registry’s position as a trusted choice for global operators.
