As of October 1st, 2024, Shell Europoort Terminal has expanded its use of the UAB-Online SaaS platform to streamline and digitise operations for seagoing vessels. Already utilising the platform for barges, Shell Europoort has now adopted UAB-Online for its larger vessels, enabling a more efficient and safer process across all maritime activities at the terminal.
By integrating UAB-Online’s digital Ship-Shore Safety Checklist, part of ISGOTT 6 guidelines, and the Operational Arrangements Module, Shell Europoort aims to improve the coordination of its pre-operational processes. These modules help manage the necessary operational checks and communications digitally, offering enhanced safety, operational efficiency, and real-time collaboration between the terminal and vessels.

This initiative reflects Shell Europoort’s commitment to adopting innovative digital solutions that improve the quality and safety of operations, while also contributing to sustainability efforts. The platform modernises the terminal’s processes for pre-arrival notifications, safety checks, and operational arrangements, ensuring smoother interactions between the terminal and vessel crews.
Shell Europoort Terminal: A Hub of Innovation
Situated in the Europoort industrial area of Rotterdam, Shell Europoort is one of the most significant refinery terminals in Europe. The terminal plays a critical role in Shell’s global supply chain, handling vast quantities of crude oil and refined products. Known for its large-scale operations, Shell Europoort has long been at the forefront of investing in technology to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.
Key Benefits of UAB-Online Integration
The integration of UAB-Online’s platform brings numerous advantages to Shell Europoort Terminal and its partners:
- Digitised Arrival Notifications: Both barges and seagoing vessels can now announce their arrivals digitally, standardising communication and simplifying pre-arrival processes.
- Enhanced Safety and Efficiency: The digital SSSCL checklist ensures all required safety and operational checks are completed and validated electronically, reducing the risk of human error.
- Real-Time Collaboration: The operational arrangements module facilitates seamless coordination between vessel crews and terminal staff, allowing all procedures to be completed digitally and in real time.
- Streamlined Operations: The overall digitisation of processes speeds up communication and decision-making, enabling smoother and safer vessel handling at the terminal.
By adopting these advanced digital solutions, Shell Europoort demonstrates its continued focus on modernising its operations, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in refinery logistics, and upholding its dedication to safety and sustainability.
