The Port of Gothenburg and Castellum to develop the first 45,000 sqm in new joint venture logistics park

The Gothenburg Port Authority and Castellum have embarked on a significant joint venture to develop a fully leased, efficient, and sustainable logistics facility in Halvorsäng, strategically located just north of the port’s terminals. This ambitious project, set to commence construction in the autumn of 2024, is expected to be a major investment in the region, with a total commitment exceeding 50 million EUR.

The facility’s first tenant will be OneMed, a prominent medical technology company, which has plans to occupy the space by 2026. Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Gothenburg Port Authority, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, noting the advantages OneMed will gain from the prime location and the opportunity to contribute to the port cluster’s growth. He emphasised the significant distribution benefits that the location offers, along with the long-term collaboration with the Port of Gothenburg and Castellum.

This new logistics park is designed to be a modern, sustainable hub, offering excellent connectivity to the largest port in the Nordics, an intermodal terminal, key industries, and major highways around Gothenburg. OneMed is the first company to sign a lease in this state-of-the-art logistics park, marking an important milestone for the project.

Robert Schmidt, CEO of OneMed Sweden, highlighted the importance of this investment, stating that the new facility would support the company’s future growth and enhance its services for Sweden’s healthcare and emergency preparedness. The facility, covering an area of 45,000 square metres, will be constructed according to “Miljöbyggnad 4.0” standards and will include solar panels capable of producing 3 GWh annually, underlining its strong sustainability credentials.

Örjan Rystedt, CEO of Castellum Region West, expressed pride in offering OneMed one of the largest logistics facilities in the region, situated in what he described as one of the best logistics locations in the Nordics. The facility will not only provide efficient warehouse spaces but also create an attractive working environment for OneMed’s employees in Gothenburg.

The joint venture between Castellum and the Gothenburg Port Authority is set to transform the area with several planned buildings ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 square metres. Some of these buildings could reach heights of up to 35 metres, enabling space-efficient storage of large volumes. Upon completion, the total building area across the development is projected to reach approximately 145,000 square metres, solidifying Halvorsäng as a key logistics hub in the Nordic region.
