Wabtec finalises locomotive order with TRANSAP
Wabtec Corporation announced that Chilean rail-based logistics leader TRANSAP has placed an order for four of its advanced C30ACi locomotives. This purchase is part of TRANSAP’s fleet renewal strategy to support its expanding operations and customer base.
“This order is a critical step for TRANSAP as we position our locomotive fleet to meet growing needs of our customers and the country,” said Eric Lobo, chief executive of TRANSAP. “The addition of these new locomotives aligns with our vision of providing efficient, safe, and sustainable rail service for our customers.”
Enhancing Fleet Capability
The C30ACi locomotives will be the first AC-traction locomotives in TRANSAP’s fleet, marking a significant technological advancement. The new units will primarily serve a long-term strategic contract with ARAUCO, one of the world’s largest forestry companies, facilitating the transportation of ARAUCO’s freight across Chile’s Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado rail network to critical markets.
“TRANSAP is a logistics leader in the region, and its rail operations help drive the economy in South America,” noted Danilo Miyasato, Wabtec’s president and regional leader of Latin America. “The C30ACis are an ideal complement to TRANSAP’s fleet and the region’s challenging rail network. These locomotives will provide low operational costs, high availability, and proven reliability needed to efficiently meet customer needs.”
C30ACi Locomotive Features
The C30ACi is designed to deliver high pulling capacity for lighter axle-load applications and incorporates AC individual-axle traction-control technology, which maximises tractive effort and enhances hauling capabilities. This design enables the locomotive to handle the work of two traditional DC units, making it an efficient and reliable choice for heavy-haul operations.
The locomotives are also engineered to navigate the sharp curves and tight clearances of EFE’s rail network, ensuring operational versatility.
Delivery Timeline
Wabtec is expected to deliver the new locomotives in 2026, further strengthening TRANSAP’s position as a key logistics provider in the South American rail sector.
