HAVI Group deploys its first two Carrier Transicold vector eCool-equipped trailers, driving cold chain electrification

HAVI Group, a global provider of innovative supply chain solutions for the food service industry, has added its first two Vector® eCool systems to its fleet, marking a significant step toward cold chain electrification. The deployment builds upon a successful pilot in Portugal that demonstrated the all-electric Carrier Transicold solution’s technical performance and strong operational benefits. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation, a global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

Carlos Santos, operations director at HAVI Portugal, described the delivery of the first two Vector eCool systems as a decisive step in the electrification of the company’s cold chain, validated by the successful pilot in Portugal and now scalable across the group. He noted that it was particularly rewarding to see a refrigeration unit operating without a factory-installed diesel engine, proving that sustainability and performance can go hand-in-hand. Santos added that the milestone was made possible through the joint efforts of partners Addvolt and Carrier Transicold, as part of a long-term journey aligned with HAVI Group’s global strategy.

The Vector eCool is a fully electric, autonomous refrigeration system for semi-trailers that eliminates the need for a combustion engine. The result of a collaboration between Carrier Transicold, Addvolt (now part of Carrier), and SAF-Holland, the solution combines an all-electric refrigeration system with energy regeneration during movement and energy storage. This combination ensures continuous refrigeration even when the vehicle is stationary or not connected to the power grid. With this technology, HAVI Portugal aims to deliver greater operational efficiency, a decrease in maintenance needs, and a significant reduction in emissions and noise.

José António Gomes, country manager of Carrier Transicold Portugal, expressed pride in supporting HAVI Portugal in its transformative journey. He stated that the adoption of eCool technology demonstrates how innovation can redefine cold chain logistics, making electric refrigeration a practical reality for fleets ready to embrace the future.

The move supports HAVI Group’s global strategy to combine decarbonisation with technological innovation. The new fully electric semi-trailers will transport temperature-sensitive goods between logistics centres and client restaurants.
