Viva Energy delivers custom fluid-handling solution for Papua New Guinea mining operation

Viva Energy Australia has partnered with a mining operation in Papua New Guinea to design and implement a new workshop fluid-handling system aimed at supporting an expanding haul truck fleet while improving safety, reliability and operational efficiency.

The project was developed to address the challenges of operating in a demanding mining environment, where workshop infrastructure must be capable of handling high maintenance volumes while maintaining strict safety and performance standards.

According to Leonard Kasa, Viva Energy’s technical engineer and project lead, the objective extended beyond simply installing storage equipment.

“The goal wasn’t just to install tanks. It was to build a system that performs reliably every day and supports both production and maintenance,” Kasa said.

Working closely with the mine’s operational teams, Viva Energy developed a tailored solution featuring multi-compartment storage, integrated pumping systems and built-in safety measures. The system was designed, tested and pre-assembled in Australia before being delivered to site, helping to minimise installation risks and streamline deployment.

Kasa noted that early engagement between the project team and site personnel was critical to the project’s success.

“That early collaboration made sure the system truly matched the site’s needs. It was built on technical trust and a shared focus on long-term performance,” he said.

The completed system has delivered a range of operational benefits, including improved workshop safety, enhanced fluid management and reduced contamination risks. It also provides stronger support for fleet availability and uptime, helping the mining operation maintain productivity as its haul truck fleet continues to grow.

The project highlights the growing role of engineered fuel and lubricant infrastructure solutions in supporting mining operations across the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in remote and challenging environments where reliability and safety remain key priorities.
