Alinta Energy secures long-term gas supply agreement with LNG Japan Corporation
Alinta Energy has entered into a gas supply agreement with LNG Japan Corporation for the purchase of more than 30 petajoules of gas, strengthening the company’s long-term energy supply position in Western Australia.
Under the agreement, Alinta Energy will offtake domestic gas from the Scarborough Joint Venture, in which LNG Japan Corporation holds a 10 percent interest, through to the early 2030s.
The agreement is expected to support Alinta Energy’s power generation assets, helping to provide additional flexibility to integrate renewable energy generation and support future development opportunities. The company said the supply arrangement would enhance its ability to provide reliable energy to households and businesses across Western Australia.
Alinta Energy Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dimery said the agreement represented a significant addition to the company’s gas portfolio and would support the continued delivery of secure and flexible energy supplies.
LNG Japan Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Takahiro Ebisu said the agreement marked an important milestone for the company’s Australian operations and demonstrated its commitment to supporting reliable energy supply in Western Australia.
The agreement forms part of Alinta Energy’s broader strategy to maintain gas supply flexibility during the transition to a lower-emissions energy system, with gas continuing to play a role in supporting renewable generation and grid reliability.
