Stolt Tank Containers is setting a new standard in tank cleaning in Houston

Stolt Container Terminal Houston has announced a significant investment in the transformation of its facility, aimed at delivering faster, safer, and more sustainable tank cleaning services. The upgrade will introduce advanced technology, increased automation, and eco-conscious solutions, positioning SCTH as a global benchmark for tank container cleaning in North America.

Enhanced Capacity and Efficiency

The new facility will double SCTH’s daily cleaning capacity, significantly improving turnaround times and minimising operational delays. The addition of drive-through cleaning bays will support a broader range of tank configurations, including hard-to-clean products, baffle and compartment tanks, and tank trailers, allowing the terminal to meet an even wider range of customer requirements.

Automation and Safety Advancements

SCTH is implementing an automated trolley cleaning system, designed to reduce manual intervention and enhance worker safety. This state-of-the-art technology ensures consistent, high-quality cleaning results while minimising human exposure to hazardous environments—further reinforcing SCTH’s commitment to operational excellence and the wellbeing of its personnel.

Sustainable Cleaning Solutions

As part of the upgrade, a new wastewater treatment plant is being installed, enabling SCTH to reuse up to 70 percent of the water used in the cleaning process. This significant step towards a greener operation aligns with global environmental objectives and offers customers an eco-friendly solution without compromising on quality or compliance.

Fully Integrated and Versatile Services

The expanded facility will support a wide variety of tank types—including chemical and food-grade containers—within a single, fully integrated location. Whether handling hazardous materials or specialised food-grade products, SCTH will be equipped with the infrastructure and expertise to manage the process efficiently, reliably, and safely.

Supporting Supply Chain Success

Dennis Verduyn, global depots director at STC, commented:

“We’re excited to upgrade our Houston infrastructure to better serve our customers, offering market-leading safety and sustainability standards. With new technologies, greater capacity, and improved efficiency, we are reinforcing our commitment to the North American market.”

The project will be delivered in two phases to ensure uninterrupted operations. This phased approach guarantees business continuity for SCTH’s clients, who can continue to rely on consistent, high-quality service throughout the construction period.

By investing in the Houston terminal, Stolt Tank Containers is strengthening its ability to support supply chain resilience with cutting-edge cleaning solutions that prioritise efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
