Akiem builds the European rail system

Akiem is collaborating with Alstom to facilitate certification testing for the inaugural MS3 locomotives earmarked for service on corridors connecting France with other European nations.

Underpinned by two framework agreements for the procurement of up to 110 Traxx MS3 units, comprising 65 confirmed orders, Akiem and Alstom solidified a commercial pact on March 15. This agreement encompasses certification testing and the delivery of the initial three Traxx MS3 prototypes, designed to operate seamlessly across Italian, French, German, Austrian, and Swiss networks.

Of the three locomotives, two will be deployed on DACH-I-FR corridors, while the third will traverse DACH-I-FR-NL-B corridors.

These Akiem-branded prototypes signify a strategic move to offer rail operators a more efficient solution, characterised by robust performance, heightened interoperability, and the versatility of a last-mile option.

Akiem takes pride in its role in shaping the trajectory of French and European rail history. As the proprietor of the inaugural locomotives capable of traversing the entire corridor from Belgium to Italy, spanning both banks of the Rhine, Akiem is actively contributing to the growth and modernization of the rail freight industry. Through substantial investments in corridors linking France with numerous European countries, Akiem is fostering the development of new routes to promote modal shift to rail across Europe.
