Arctic Basin Ports’ throughput in August 2021: liquefied gas down

According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in August 2021 decreased by 14.9 percent year-on-year.

Cabotage dropped by 57.5 percent, and import was down 38.6 percent. Export, on the contrary, grew by 10.2 percent. The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2021 amounted to 11.1 percent.

44.4 percent of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, coal and coke accounted for 17.3 percent and LNG for 13.3 percent. The highest growth was in the piece cargo (+80.1 percent), reefer cargo (+56.8 percent) and ferrous metals (+37.8 percent).

The commodities that decreased the most were chemical and mineral fertilisers (-45.4 percent), liquefied gas (-32.2 percent), and coal and coke (-22.2 percent).

Murmansk accounted for 58.7 percent of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin seaports in August. Sabetta handled 22.7 percent, and Varandey 5.3 percent of the total.
