Following a meticulous recruitment process involving both internal and external candidates, Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal has been appointed as the new CEO of Statkraft, effective April 1, 2024.

Expressing satisfaction with the appointment, Alexandra Bech Gjørv, chair of the board of directors at Statkraft, praised Vartdal’s extensive experience and leadership qualities, emphasising her profound understanding of the company and its stakeholders.

With a background as an executive vice president at Statkraft and prior roles as CEO and CFO at Golden Ocean, Vartdal brings a wealth of knowledge to her new position. Her tenure at Statkraft, including leadership roles in the Nordics and European Wind and Solar business areas, underscores her strategic vision and industry expertise.

“I am honoured to lead Statkraft and our dedicated team in driving the energy transition forward,” stated Vartdal. “As Norway’s largest power producer and a key player in Europe’s renewable energy landscape, we will continue to deliver stable, green energy solutions to our markets.”

Outgoing CEO Christian Rynning-Tønnesen, commending Vartdal’s appointment, acknowledged her strategic acumen and deep understanding of Statkraft’s values. Under his leadership, Statkraft witnessed substantial growth, positioning itself as a leading player in renewable energy.

Vartdal’s remuneration package aligns with industry standards, reflecting her crucial role in steering Statkraft’s future growth and sustainability initiatives. Bech Gjørv, Vartdal, and Rynning-Tønnesen will address the media at a press conference today at Statkraft’s headquarters in Oslo, Norway.
