Burckhardt Compression expands offer in Marine business and wins first order for LNG Carriers with low-pressure 2-stroke engines

Burckhardt Compression, a global leader in reciprocating compressor technology, has announced a significant order to supply LNG boil-off gas handling compressors for eight LNG ships being built by Hanwha Ocean.

This project introduces the latest extension of Burckhardt Compression’s marine portfolio, marking the company’s entry into the LNG carrier market for boil-off gas handling compressor solutions designed for low-pressure 2-stroke engines. The LNG carriers will feature low-pressure propulsion systems combined with Hanwha Ocean’s patented partial reliquefaction system. Burckhardt’s compressors are a critical component of this system, efficiently boosting LNG boil-off gas to 150 bar pressure. Key features include completely dry-running cylinders at all stages, a compact design, and higher overall efficiency.

“With this order, we are broadening our product range to meet the evolving needs of the marine industry and reinforcing our position as a major player in the LNG market,” stated Fabrice Billard, CEO of Burckhardt Compression. “Our compressors are integral to the industry’s move towards more sustainable practices, and we are proud to contribute to this significant shift.”

This contract strengthens Burckhardt Compression’s role in the LNG sector, supporting more efficient and environmentally friendly operations in the global marine industry.
