Chemline ISO tank coating projects

A leading producer and global distributor of chemicals and intermediates headquartered in Houston, Texas, had been experiencing numerous coating failures with their ISO tanks storing acid chlorides and chloroformates.

The customer had been storing and transporting various acid chlorides and chloroformates with great success for over 20 years until recently, when it started experiencing complete failures in the linings of the tanks.

After leasing a new fleet of ISO tank containers, they discovered the ChemLINE coating system already present in a few of the tanks coming off a previous lease.

An employee who oversees fleet operations stated: “I had never heard about ChemLINE before. 90 percent of our fleet is lined with a competitor’s coating, and we recently had so many problems with the lining. Something had to have changed with the lining recently, the formulation, something. The tanks haven’t been lasting more than 2/2.5 years.”

The employee also remarked on the company’s reputation for quality and safety, stating: “We don’t put anything into service unless it’s tested in our lab. We did a 6-month coupon test of the ChemLINE coating at our lab, and it performed extremely well.”

After the successful testing was complete and a quality applicator was in place, ChemLINE was ultimately the coating system chosen for the project. The customer has been quite satisfied with the results, having already lined 24 ISO tanks with ChemLINE.

Speaking about the quality of the application work, the same employee further stated: “You know, second-hand looking at the coating is completely different from experiencing the coating for itself.

The project, in total, calls for 40 tanks coated with ChemLINE.

The customer does most of its ChemLINE lining work at Mitchell Industries’ (MI) brand new, state-of-the-art 20,000 sq ft coating facility in Baytown, TX. MI has successfully re-lined and continues to line ISO tanks on behalf of the customer.
