Dinges Logistics carries out first roadshow with new training container

Dinges Logistics recently carried out their first roadshow with a new training container. This unique project involved converting a tank container that had been taken out of service into a walk-in training container. The goal was to provide a comprehensive understanding of tank container logistics and make complex aspects more tangible through practical training.

The training container itself is a 30,000-litre swap body tank container with various features such as a stack pipe, baffles, a gas pendulum connection, and flanges in the dome cover area. It was previously used for transporting liquid goods. To convert it into a training container, the team at Dinges Logistics took several measures. They cut open the side to make it accessible from the inside and also cut out a piece to reveal the insulation and container construction. The container was equipped with a railing on top, a floor, and stairs for easy access. This allowed participants to not only enter the container but also view it from above.

The training container is used in combination with a wide range of fittings, couplings, seals, and other accessories, offering a comprehensive learning experience. This opportunity is not only available to Dinges Logistics’ employees but also to external interested parties who can benefit from gaining practical insights and expanding their knowledge in this area.

Ingo Dinges, owner and managing director of Dinges Logistics, believes that a basic background knowledge of all employees is crucial for success. He initiated the tank container conversion to provide insightful and practical training, enabling better understanding of interrelationships and optimising operational processes. He also emphasises the importance of raising awareness about the complexity of tank container logistics. Ingo Dinges takes pride in the fact that the entire project was carried out by his own team.

To mark the completion of the training container, Dinges Logistics organised a roadshow where the container was used for the first time. The event focused on various aspects of tank container logistics and included additional equipment such as a tractor unit with a standard ISO tank container connected to a heating or cooling block, as well as a tractor unit with a chemical tank semitrailer equipped with special equipment. Several stations were set up to address different focal points, and nearly 40 participants were guided through these stations in groups. The event also included a simulation of the storage and retrieval process of a tank container in a container terminal using a reachstacker.

Both the participants and Dinges Logistics had a positive experience with the roadshow. The main topics covered were interesting and fundamental for all participants, leading to several “aha” moments. The positive feedback received has encouraged Dinges Logistics to continue organising similar roadshows in the future.

Dinges Logistics’ commitment to providing practical training opportunities and enhancing knowledge in the industry is commendable. The conversion of a tank container into a training container and the successful roadshow demonstrate their dedication to continuous learning and improvement. With their innovative approach, Dinges Logistics is sure to make a lasting impact on the field of tank container logistics.
