ECTA drivers APP driver wellbeing awards 2025 winners

In the autumn of 2023, ECTA released its ECTA Drivers APP to enable truck drivers to rate their daily experiences at loading and unloading locations in the chemical industry across Europe. Through this hands-on initiative, ECTA and its members are working to improve job attractiveness and working conditions for drivers in the chemical industry.

Since the start, increasing numbers of ECTA members have joined the initiative by inviting their contracted and subcontracted drivers to use the APP, giving them the opportunity to rate chemical sites based on safety, waiting time, truck driver treatment and driver facilities. Drivers can also leave text comments and indicate whether a location can be considered female-driver-friendly.

“We want to give Drivers a voice,” stated the ECTA board of directors.

The chemical industry joins the ECTA Drivers APP

During 2025, ECTA invited shippers to join the initiative by offering them free access to anonymised reports of their sites. Many shippers agreed to become cooperation partners and to promote the usage of the ECTA Drivers APP to their staff and drivers visiting their sites. By offering these reports, ECTA provides the chemical industry with the opportunity to benchmark themselves against other industry players. These benchmarks are based on all received reviews from drivers.

A key finding from these reports is that shippers are interested in learning about their performance, though improvements at sites can be difficult to implement due to several factors including budget constraints. Nonetheless, a willingness to improve can be observed in most cases.

The award winners 2025

Receiving reports from drivers and providing reports to shippers made it possible to host the first ECTA Driver Wellbeing Awards in 2025. A selection of the best-performing shippers were invited to the ECTA Annual Meeting in November 2025 and presented with certificates acknowledging their engagement in driver wellbeing.

The Award Winners 2025 are:

  • Vita Cellular Foams Ltd Manchester
  • BASF Espanola SL Barcelona
  • BASF Antwerp Gate 6
  • Leuna Tor 1
  • LBC Rotterdam BV
  • Advario Stolthaven Antwerp
  • Arkema Carling

Numbers and partners of the ECTA Drivers APP

  • More than 1,300 locations across Europe can be rated
  • Over 2,000 drivers are registered to the ECTA Drivers APP
  • Drivers can rate safety, waiting time, truck driver treatment and facilities, and provide information on whether a location is lady-friendly, as well as explain their review through text comments

Over the past year, ECTA has inspired parties within the chemical industry to join the ECTA Drivers APP as cooperation partners. Several major players have agreed to support the initiative by providing posters and information materials at their sites, recognising the benefits for drivers.
