First modules arrive for Scarborough Energy Project

In Western Australia, the arrival of the first three Pluto Train 2 modules in Karratha signifies a major achievement for the Scarborough Energy Project. Fabricated by Bechtel in Indonesia, these modules collectively weigh over 4,000 metric tonnes and are part of a total of 51 modules that will comprise Pluto Train 2. This train, the second liquefied natural gas production train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility, will process gas from the offshore Scarborough development.

The Scarborough Energy Project, managed by Woodside Energy, holds significant promise for the Australian economy, generating thousands of job opportunities during its construction phase. Bechtel, chosen by Woodside Energy to oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction of Pluto Train 2, commenced construction activities in November 2021. With an LNG processing capacity of approximately 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), Pluto Train 2 will enhance domestic gas infrastructure by increasing capacity to approximately 225 Terajoules per day.

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill lauded the timely delivery of the first Pluto Train 2 module as a pivotal step towards the project’s completion, emphasizing its role in meeting global demand for low-cost, lower-carbon, and reliable energy.

Paul Marsden, President of Bechtel Energy, underscored the company’s dedication to safety, quality, and collaboration, highlighting the profound impact of their work on communities. Leveraging their global experience in LNG projects, Bechtel is committed to delivering excellence in the construction of Pluto Train 2.

The Scarborough Energy Project aims to achieve its first LNG cargo by 2026, marking a significant milestone in Australia’s energy landscape.
