Geldof secures contract with Gasunie for WarmtelinQ sustainable heat network project
Geldof (Engicon nv) has signed a contract with Gasunie to participate in the WarmtelinQ project, a large-scale sustainable infrastructure initiative designed to deliver residual heat from the Port of Rotterdam to homes and businesses across South Holland via an underground heat network.
Under the agreement, Geldof will design and fabricate two heat collecting vessels, including their complete steel constructions. All fabrication work will be carried out at the company’s workshop in Harelbeke, Belgium, after which the completed units will be transported to site and fully installed by the Geldof team.
The scale of the vessels underscores the complexity and ambition of the project, with each unit measuring eight metres in diameter and 45 metres in total length. The heat collecting vessels form a key component of the WarmtelinQ system, which aims to repurpose residual industrial heat as a sustainable alternative energy source for the wider South Holland region. The project will reuse residual heat from the Port of Rotterdam.
The contract award highlights Geldof’s expertise in large-scale industrial fabrication and its growing involvement in sustainable energy infrastructure projects across Europe. The collaboration with Gasunie marks the beginning of what both parties have described as an exciting new chapter in advancing the energy transition.
