HMM signs MoU with Shanghai International Port group on clean marine fuel bunkering


HMM has taken a significant step towards promoting clean marine fuel initiatives by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG). The focus of this MoU is on bunkering methanol and LNG at Shanghai Port, aligning with HMM’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The signing ceremony, which took place between Mr. S.W. Oh, chairman of HMM (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, and Mr. Huang Haidong, marketing director of SIPG, marks a pivotal moment in the collaboration between the two companies.

In line with its sustainability goals, HMM is actively expanding its eco-friendly supply chain networks at key ports like Shanghai, Singapore, and Busan. The company has also entered into new building contracts for nine 9,000TEU vessels powered by methanol and plans to operate two 7,700TEU LNG-powered vessels by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, SIPG continues to lead the way in promoting green and ecological ports, having provided bonded LNG bunkering services for numerous shipping companies worldwide since 2022. The completion of preparations for green methanol bunkering in Shanghai Port underscores SIPG’s dedication to sustainable maritime practices.

An HMM official expressed optimism about the collaboration with SIPG, highlighting the expansion of the green fuel supply chain in China as a significant milestone. The company remains committed to exploring various avenues to foster environmentally friendly shipping solutions.
