MOL recognised for LNG Shipping decarbonisation efforts at LR Global LNG Forum
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has received the Global Technology Technical Achievement Award at the LR Global LNG Forum in Houston, recognizing the company’s advancements in decarbonization initiatives for LNG shipping through its Wind Challenger Project.
The award highlights MOL’s efforts to promote more sustainable maritime operations by incorporating wind-assisted propulsion technology into LNG carriers. The Wind Challenger Project, developed as part of the company’s broader environmental strategy, aims to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions within the LNG shipping sector.
During the forum, MOL delivered a presentation outlining its decarbonisation initiatives and the technical approaches supporting them. The company showcased the application of Wind Challenger technology on LNG carriers, along with its fuel-saving visualisation system and the transparent third-party verification process conducted in collaboration with Lloyd’s Register.
According to the company, the presentation generated significant interest among attendees, particularly regarding the practical implementation of wind-assisted propulsion technologies as part of the shipping industry’s transition toward lower emissions.
MOL stated that the recognition reflects its ongoing commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and advancing sustainable solutions across its global operations.
