Neste and Finnish ferry operator Eckerö Line are continuing their partnership to reduce emissions from maritime transport. Eckerö Line, which offers freight and passenger services across the Baltic Sea between Helsinki and Tallinn, has become the first company in Finland to adopt Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ for commercial maritime use.
By partially replacing fossil fuels with Neste MY Renewable Diesel in its operations, Eckerö Line is meeting the two percent emissions reduction requirement under the FuelEU Maritime regulation, which came into force at the beginning of 2025. The move also supports broader efforts to promote the adoption of lower-emission fuels in the maritime industry.

Produced from 100 percent waste and residue raw materials for the Finnish market, Neste MY Renewable Diesel delivers an average reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of up to 90 percent over its lifecycle when compared to conventional fossil diesel.
“Neste MY Renewable Diesel meets our needs well. We can use it as is in our existing fleet of ships operating in the Gulf of Finland to reduce our vessels’ greenhouse gas emissions, thereby meeting the requirements of the FuelEU Maritime regulation,” said Taru Keronen, CEO of Eckerö Line.
Chemically similar to fossil diesel, Neste MY Renewable Diesel can be used in all diesel-powered marine vessels without requiring modifications to existing engines or fuel infrastructure, making it a practical solution for decarbonising current fleets.
“The need to mitigate climate change is more urgent than ever. It is great to support the maritime sector’s shift towards lower-emission transport through our renewable fuel and this partnership. Eckerö Line is setting an excellent example,” said Joni Pihlström, vice president, marketing & services at Neste.
The emissions reduction achieved by Neste MY Renewable Diesel may vary depending on regional legislation and the raw material mix used in each market.
