Pembina congratulates Meta and the Government of Alberta on new data centre investment
Pembina Pipeline Corporation, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSIP) and Kineticor Asset Management have welcomed Meta’s announcement of a major new data centre project in Alberta, Canada.
The companies, which are partners in the Greenlight Electricity Centre Limited Partnership, said the project highlights Alberta’s ability to attract large-scale investments by leveraging its energy resources, skilled workforce and business environment.
Representatives from Pembina joined Meta, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, government officials from Alberta and Sturgeon County, and other project partners to mark the announcement.
The data centre development follows a recent positive final investment decision on the Greenlight Electricity Centre, a dedicated behind-the-meter power generation project designed to supply the reliable, large-scale electricity required to support Meta’s facility.
Pembina said the gas-to-power project represents a new growth opportunity by creating additional natural gas demand while supporting the expansion of digital infrastructure. The company added that the development is expected to provide benefits for its customers, Alberta’s energy sector and the broader regional economy.
“Dedicated, contracted gas-to-power infrastructure represents a promising new growth platform,” said Scott Burrows, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pembina Pipeline. “Greenlight is playing a role in supporting this emerging industry while helping meet the growing demand for reliable electricity.”
The Greenlight Electricity Centre is being developed as part of a broader effort to provide flexible and dependable power solutions for large-scale data centre operations, supporting the continued growth of digital infrastructure in Alberta.
