Royal Den Hartogh Logistics acquires H&S Group

Royal Den Hartogh Logistics, a global transportation company serving the chemical, gas, and food industries, has broadened its portfolio with the acquisition of H&S Group, a renowned leader in liquid foodstuff transportation in Europe. The agreement, signed on March 15, 2024, sees Ubbo Hempenius, owner of H&S Group, transfer all shares to Royal Den Hartogh Logistics, represented by Pieter den Hartogh, group managing director.

Following the acquisition, H&S Group will operate as the fifth business unit within Den Hartogh, alongside Liquid, Gas, Global, and Dry Bulk. The deal encompasses all business units and joint ventures of H&S Group, with the exception of its Cleaning & Filling division in Barneveld. This expansion enhances Den Hartogh’s global market standing as a premier logistics service provider, offering a comprehensive range of services. However, regulatory clearance is pending for the transaction.

Ubbo Hempenius expressed enthusiasm about the merger, highlighting the opportunity to leverage combined strengths, expand smart logistics solutions, and extend reach. He emphasised the alignment of values and the commitment to creating a sustainable future for employees and customers. Pieter den Hartogh echoed this sentiment, portraying the acquisition as a strategic move to broaden services, particularly in liquid food transportation. He emphasised the shared history, values, and ambition between the two companies, underscoring the valuable addition of the H&S team to the Den Hartogh family.

Both companies, deeply rooted in Dutch heritage, have a longstanding commitment to safety and common values such as transparency, personal development, and respect. Their collaboration dates back to 2001, and the merger signifies a continuation of their shared journey towards setting new standards in logistics.

With a background spanning ministerial leadership and entrepreneurship, Wilson brings a wealth of experience to Element 2. “I’m thrilled to join Element 2’s board during this transformative growth phase,” Wilson remarked. “With the company’s leadership in the UK’s hydrogen refuelling sector, Element 2 is well-positioned to capitalise on the rising trend towards hydrogen-powered vehicles.”
